Three monumental bronze sculptures by André Volten (1925-2002) are installed at the Surinameplein in Amsterdam. Jaarbeurs Utrecht was willing to lend these artworks that Volten made in 1980.
Foundation Art Zuid together with the City of Amsterdam made this possible.
André Volten was one of Holland’s most important 20th century sculptors. Special is that he was born and bred in North Amsterdam. Amsterdam has a lot to thank him for: more that twenty of his sculptures decorate the city, including the locally famous ‘knakenpaal’ (money pole), across from the Nederlandse Bank.
