From 15 through 23 October, Eindhoven, the organizing city of the Dutch Design Week (formerly Design Week), will be the Dutch centre of Design and attract massive national and international attention. The Dutch Design Week aims to attract more than 30,000 visitors with a programme including well over 100 participating parties and activities such as talks, congresses, exhibitions, workshops and presentations.
Graduation Show Design Academy
Graduation 2005 is the name of the annual graduation show of the Design Academy Eindhoven. Well over one hundred unique and innovative designs by young graduate students will be shown to a wide public for the very first time. Graduation 2005 introduces refreshingly new ideas for furniture, lighting, bikes, kitchens, toys, services, accessories, clothing and so on and so forth. The designers are present and prepared to explain their projects and answer your questions. Visitors can give their vote to the best, most beautiful or most clever design. The winner will be handed the Eindhovens Dagblad public award during a festive prize-winning ceremony on Sunday, October 23. Enjoy the design restaurant and the spectacular cocktail bar.

Grand Opening
The opening ceremony on Friday, October 14 will take place in a characteristic
former Philips factory in Strijp S. An invitation will be extended to
approximately one hundred opinion leaders who are actively involved in
the government, education, the business sector and the design community.
Alexander Sakkers, Mayor of the city of Eindhoven and Stefano Marzano
CEO Philips Design will be among the people delivering a speech. During
the event, the technological and economic potentialities of the design
region Eindhoven will be put in a European perspective. After this, the
invitees will visit the Dutch Design Award presentation and attend the
prize-giving ceremony of the Dutch Design Awards.
Philips Design celebrates
jubilee during DDW 2005
The Dutch Design Week includes exhibitions in four locations in the city
(TU/e Campus, De Witte Dame, Temporary Art Centre and Strijp S) and a
large number of congresses and workshops. A prominent element of the Dutch
Design Week, the Graduation Show organized by the Design Academy, will
most certainly be offering an inspirational presentation of top class
international design quality. On October 18, Her Majesty Queen Beatrix
will visit the Dutch Design Week and talk with designers at the presentation
“Dutch Mountains” in De Witte Dame. The magazine ITEMS will
present a selection of the graduation projects of graduates from Dutch
and Flanders academies and design institutes in CBK de Krabbedans.
Philips Design celebrates its eightieth anniversary with the publication of a splendid jubilee edition which will be presented during the Dutch Design Week. At Strijp S, an exhibition is staged featuring trend-setting Philips products of the past eighty years. Obviously, the above mentioned events just represent a random choice from the massive programme which also includes a virtual exhibition of Eindhoven designs (organized by Design Connection) which after DDW is travelling to New York and other cities, a congress and a book presentation about theatre design (organized by [Z]00 Producties), an exhibition of products designed by young designers (Lift Off) and a new, even more elaborate edition of Grey Tones, the project of young graphic designers and firms which turned out to be a big hit with both the press and the public.
