Studio Job

20 - 24 September 2006

Greenwich Village Design Art Gallery, London

Greenwich Village Design Art Gallery are delighted to present an exclusive exhibition of the prolific Belgian/Dutch designers Studio Job, within the gallery space at The Hospital, Covent Garden. The highlight of this presentation is the Studio Job ‘Perished collection’ of weighty tables, benches and wardrobes finished in black wood, inlaid with hand cut marquetry of fossilised skeletons, exclusively shown for the first time in the UK. A monumentally striking collection that challenges our perception of functionality. “We inhabit the space between art and design, function and sculpture – the area where one thing floats into another”, explains Studio Job.

The showcase also includes Studio Jobs new ‘Paper furniture prototype’ collection with hand-painted original artwork. The collection is made from familiar materials - paper, cardboard and papier-mâché. Inspired by classic icons but manufactured like modern day furniture, this collection is an ode to classical style and to the material. Monumental and light, transitory and timeless. Going back to the classical style of painting these works are delicately painted with the finest brushes and high pigment on a beautifully prepared surface. The little stories are based on graphics and components they have designed throughout the years.
