Job
Smeets & Nynke Tynagel - Oriental applied art From today onward, until 2007,
the Starck Pavilion in the Groninger Museum accommodates the exhibition
Oriental Applied Art. Job Smeets & Nynke Tynagel. The work of Studio
Job is on display in combination with a selection of Oriental applied
art. Chinese and Japanese porcelain, lacquer-work, wood carving, and several
objects carved in ivory from the collection of the Groninger Museum form
a surprising combination with the modern and distinctive design of Studio
Job. The work on show includes a part of their Oxidized series (2003)
and their more recent work from the Biscuit series (2005), the Still Life
series (2004-2006) and Paper Collection (2006). Studio Job’s long-term
fascination for working with paper and cardboard is emphatically expressed
in this last-mentioned collection. The Groninger Museum exhibits a refreshment
bar, cabinet, mirror and an impressive chandelier made of these materials.
